Band-aid
You got hurt again,
that’s why you’re back.
But that’s okay, because I’ll be your band-aid
the kind that falls off in the shower,
without you even knowing,
the kind that doesn’t hurt when you tear it off,
because you know how to let go
without a second thought.
You don’t need me right now,
because the little scratch on you
finally scarred and now the area is numb.
But that’s okay, because you’re clumsy,
and you’ll get hurt again.
You’ll be fine.
I’ll be fine.
We’ll both be fine.
I already decided,
I’ll be your band-aid again,
every time.
Until you realize
that I can be more than
just a band-aid,
Until you realize
what unconditional means,
that I am your friend first,
before anything else,
and one day you’ll realize
that I won’t leave you.
But for now,
I’ll be your band-aid.
