To My Mother, In High Regard
I used to watch my mother clean all day and cook all night
And steal quick naps in spurts, and I wondered why
In the morning when I rise and off to school I would go,
To then return to find her there just to say hello
It was then that I did not know that moment I’d hold
In high regard
But a twinkle in her eye told me so
And now, I can see that she was me and I am her, and for this epiphany,
I hold her
In high regard
Well the more I grow, the more I know that all she has done was just to be
Because she thought of me,
In high regard
